The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) plays a crucial role in aiding the match official in determining whether an infringement occurred that negates a goal. When the ball has crossed the line, play is halted, thereby avoiding any direct impact on the ongoing game.

• The referee either informs the VAR to review a decision/incident or receives a recommendation from the VAR to do so.
• The VAR thoroughly examines the video footage and communicates to the referee via headset regarding the content of the video.
• Following this exchange, the referee can choose to review the video footage on the side of the field of play before making a judgment or alternatively trust the input from the VAR to make an informed decision.
